Woman dies, child injured in New Year’s Day accident

A van rollover New Year’s Day at 3:23 p.m. on Fillmore County Road 5 two miles north of Cherry Grove led to the death of a woman and sent a young child to the hospital.

The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center (911) received a call that a van rolled several times on County Road 5 south of 180th Street in Forestville Township. A Dodge Caravan, driven by Tasha Tarrence, 21, of Wykoff, traveling southbound on County Road 5 left the roadway, according to Fillmore County Sheriff Tom Kaase. There was also a young child in the van.

Tarrence and the child were both transported to Saint Marys Hospital by Spring Valley Ambulance and Gold Cross Ambulance. The child was seen and discharged, said Kaase the day after the accident. Tarrence remained at Saint Marys for life-threatening injuries and she died Saturday.

Fillmore County sheriff’s deputies responded along with Wykoff First Responders, Spring Valley Fire Department and Spring Valley Ambulance Service. The accident investigation continues by the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office, which is being assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol.
