Patricia Emerson, 77, mother of Lanesboro woman

Patricia Ann Emerson, 77, formerly of Rochester, died unexpectedly at her home near Lancaster, Calif., on the morning of March 19, 2019.

She was born on Oct. 28, 1941, to Ralph W. Crane and Eleanor E. (Everts) Crane in Mower County.

She grew up near Racine as the second of four children.

She graduated from Stewartville High School.

She worked for IBM.

After 20 years, she quit working to go to school full time. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Winona State University. She then chose to move to California to attend the University of Southern California. At the age of 59, she received her Doctorate in Sociology and family therapy.

She worked many different jobs during her 30 years of going to school. Eventually, she started her own practice and opened “My Office.” Aside from helping her clients, she assisted other therapists by providing them an affordable place to begin their practice.

She enjoyed antiquing, going to estate sales and working around her “farm.” She also enjoyed traveling — one of her favorites was Italy. Her latest trip was to Mexico for her granddaughter’s wedding.

She is survived by her children, Christine (David) Gudmundson of Lanesboro, William (Carol) Crane of Racine, Daniel (Marina) Durand of Barstow, Calif., and Marta (Larry) Telkamp of Britton, S.D.; grandchildren, Melissa (Blake) Norman of Garner, Iowa, Justin Gudmundson of Lanesboro and Katherine Telkamp of Britton, S.D.; and siblings, Robert (Jean) Crane of Columbia, Mass., Joyce (Fred) Baldwin of Pinetop, Ariz., and David (Angie) Crane of Andover.

A celebration of life for her will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the Racine City Hall and Event Center, 25 Great Western Ave. NE, Racine, Minn.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, make a donation to an organization of one’s choice.
