Lucile Ask, 96, of Lanesboro

Lucile Ask, 96, of Lanesboro, died peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2019, at Traditions Assisted Living Center in Preston.

Lucile was born June 26, 1923, to David and Anna (Hendrickson) Mensink in Cherry Grove.  She attended Cherry Grove country school and graduated from Wykoff High School in 1941.  After graduation Lucile had several jobs including phone operator, store clerk, housekeeper and nursing assistant.

She married Myran M. Ask on September 26, 1945, at Cherry Grove Methodist Church.  Together they farmed south of Lanesboro and raised their two sons, David and Michael.  Lucile was involved in all aspects of the farm.  She raised chickens and sold eggs to the White Gate Café in Preston and the Lanesboro Produce.  She was also an active member of Elstad Lutheran Church as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent and member of Ladies Aid.

In 1979, Myran had a stroke which led to the selling of the farm and moving into the town of Lanesboro.  Lucile was a caregiver to Myran until his death in 1992 after which she kept busy with several jobs such as driving for Semcac, managing the Galligan House Bed and Breakfast, working at the Lanesboro Day Care Center and Historical Museum. Lucile enjoyed cooking and hosting Christmas for her family, which was always the center of her life.  They loved her donuts, graham cracker pies, bread pudding, scalloped potatoes and she always had a pot of coffee on.  Lucile also enjoyed her cross-word puzzles, reading and journaling which she started in 1947 and never missed a day.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myran, her son, David, infant sister, Clarice, brothers, Edward and Donald Mensink, sisters, Ollie Hamlin, Alene Turner and Esther Glady.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Norine) Ask of Lanesboro and their three children, Andrew (Celeste) Ask of Farmington, Christine (Bryan Hamernik) Schwichtenberg of Winona, Peter (Tiffany) Ask of Chatfield, daughter-in-law Evon Ask of Faribault, and her two children, Sara (Rick) Borgen of St. Cloud and Roger Ask of Faribault; 13 great-grandchildren, Reanna and Gabriel Borgen, Isaac and Jonah Ask, Kennedy and Griffin Schwichtenberg, Lauryn, Nolan, Gracyn, Camden and Cannon Hamernik, and Taylor and Carter Ask; sister, Arlys Michener of Spring Valley; brother, Harlan Mensink of Ostrander, and many nieces and nephews.

Lucile’s memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 7, at Elstad Lutheran Church, rural Lanesboro, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Luther Mathsen officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church and the committal service will be held at a later date.
