The Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson boys cross-country team used a balanced attack to pull off one of their best showings of the season, placing third at the St. Charles Invitational. The meet featured some of the area’s top teams, and the LARP boys proved they could run with the best. Led by meet champion Luke O’Hare, LARP packed five runners into the top 25, and only 45 seconds separated the team’s top seven runners.

“Luke (O’Hare) continues to run well,” said coach Matt Kingsbury. “Tyler Rislov put in a bunch of extra miles this summer and is proving what a difference that makes. He’s just been running very well, and this was a tough meet. Brad Colbenson had his best race of the season, and we had the individual champions in both the boys (Gabe Huelskamp) and girls (Ellie Ekern) junior high races.  This was our third race in a week, and everyone was feeling it in their legs. Overall, St. Charles was a very good meet for us.”

Boy’s Varsity

LARP sophomore O’Hare got back on the winning track at St. Charles, topping the 70-runner boy’s varsity field with a time of 17:16.9 for the 5000-meter course. Senior Aidan Ellinghuysen was the next LARP finisher, clocking 18:21.1 and placing ninth. LARP freshman Tyler Rislov finished 16th in 18:36.9, and junior teammate Mitchell Ledebuhr wasn’t far behind, placing 21st in 18:56.5. Ricky Buchanan rounded out the LARP scorers, covering the course in 19:09.5 to place 24th.

Other LARP varsity runners included sophomores Aleric Frick (30th place, 19:32) and Brad Colbenson (33rd, 19:36.9), and freshmen Andrew Hoiness (35th, 19:46) and Hunter Mart (44th, 20:34). Senior Brendon Honken ran the course in 24:49 to place 84th, and freshman Andrew McClellan placed 86th in 25:14.

Plainview Elgin Millville (PEM) won the 11-team boy’s varsity title, cramming their five scoring runners into the meet’s top 14 finishers to score 39 points. La Crescent was the runner up with 70 points, and LARP was only a point behind with 71. They were followed by Stewartville (81), St. Charles (103), Lake City (175), Dover-Eyota (221), GMLOS (244), Schaeffer Academy (252), Kingsland (269) and Lanesboro-Fillmore Central (288).

Girl’s Varsity

Only three LARP runners scored in the girl’s varsity race. Freshman Grace Buchanan placed 25th, covering the 5000-meter course in 23:45.5. Sophomore Hannah Linder was right on Buchanan’s heels, placing 26th in 23:47.7. LARP sophomore Jannessa Larsen covered the course in 26:42.6 to place 52nd. Stewartville junior Kailee Malone was the meet medalist, outracing the 70-runner girls varsity field to win in 20:23.6. Stewartville also claimed the team title, placing five runners in the top ten to notch 24 points. PEM was the runner-up (67 points) and Lake City placed third (93). Rounding out the eight-team girls field were La Crescent (101), LFC (110), St. Charles (167), and GMLOS (183). The LARP girls did not field a complete team.
