The Chatfield girls basketball team played pretty tough in both games against Pine Island and Plainview-Elgin-Millville, but in the end lost both, 66-58 to PI and 69-56 to PEM.

The gals are now 4-8 in Three Rivers Conference play and 9-15 overall.

The team will finish up the regular season this week, Tuesday at home against Southland and Friday at Dover-Eyota.

“After being down by two at half, we came out and built a 10-point lead, 43-33, against Pine Island,” said coach Brian Baum. “Then the wheels fell off. We played OK in spurts, but just appeared sluggish for most of the game.  A little disappointing, considering we were coming off a big win vs. St. Charles on Friday, and taking two of three last week. A tough loss for us.”

The team had good balanced scoring with Jaiden Zimmerman leading with 14 points, with 12 for Peyton Berg, nine for Tessa McMahon, Mollie Henry scored eight, Silja Erickson had seven, six for Zayda Priebe and two for Alyssa Baum. Berg was four for 11 from the field, including three for eight from three-point range and one for one at the free throw line. Zimmerman hit six of 16 and Silja Erickson was three for six from the field. McMahon was four for four at the free throw line and Henry hit two of two.

Priebe led the team with eight rebounds, with seven for Erickson, five each for McMahon, Berg and Henry and four for Zimmerman.

McMahon had three steals and six assists, with four steals and two assists for Zimmerman, three assists for Erickson and two for Berg.

Chatfield trailed by two at halftime, 27-25.

The Chatfield JV got the win, and improved to 14-6.

Zimmerman hit seven of 13 from the field and finished with 16 points in the loss to PEM. Alyssa Baum had 11 points in the game, as she hit four of seven from the field, including three of five from “downtown.”  Henry scored nine points, as she connected on four of her 11 shots, and went one for one at the free throw line. Erickson had six points, including four for four at the charity line, with four points each for McMahon and Berg and one bucket each for Kara Goetzinger, Priebe and Anna Kivimagi.

Berg and Priebe had five rebounds each, with four for Henry and Erickson and three for Zimmerman. McMahon led the team with five assists and Zimmerman dished out four.

The Chatfield JV squad got another win and is now 15-6.
