Chatfield softball players receive conference, section, state honors

The Chatfield softball team finished the 2019 season with a 19-6 record and a third-place finish in the Section 1AA tournament, in which the Gophers went 4-2.  The gals were the Three Rivers Conference West division champions with a 14-2 record, 15-4, overall, for the regular season.  The team was 5-1 against the teams from the TRC East division during the regular season, losing only to Cotter. 

As a team, Chatfield had a batting average of .353, with 248 hits in 702 at-bats, and an on-base average of .427.  The Gophers out-scored their opponents, 196-50 (7.84-2.00 average), and shut out their opponents in 10 games.

Of their 19 wins, 10 were shortened games (less than seven innings) and two were extra-inning games.  Both of the extra-inning games were against Lewiston-Altura (12 innings and 9 innings) and both were 1-0 shutout wins. 

Of their six losses, three were shutouts, all three to Cotter (0-1, 0-5, 0-2). 

As a team, Chatfield had 74 extra-base hits, 60 doubles, one triple and 13 home runs.  They walked 82 times and struck out 120 times.
