There was only one relatively close game in the three classes of smaller schools in the state football tournament semi-finals.

In the 9-man semi-finals Hancock outscored Mountain Iron-Buhl 65-32 while Mountain Lake Area walloped Win-E-Mac 45-6.

In Class A, Blooming Prairie blanked Ada-Borup 41-0 while BOLD blitzed Browerville-Eagle Valley 56-7.

In Class AA, Caledonia clobbered Barnesville 43-12. The closest game was Minneapolis North defeating Paynesville 44-32.

The 9-man state title game is on Saturday, Nov. 30 while the Class A and AA finals are on Nov. 29.

Southland back to SEC

Southland will rejoin the Southeast Conference, starting with the next school year 2020-2021. That brings membership to 12 programs (13 schools with Pacelli and Lyle competing as one shared program).

That brings membership back to the original number of programs when the conference was founded 28 years ago.

The Rebels were one of the original 12 members and competed in the SEC for the first 11 years. Then the SEC became an exclusively small-school league for school year 2002-03 when four schools (including Southland) moved to the Three Rivers Conference.
