Big country music stars come to Musikk Fest stage

Musikk Fest is back and bigger than ever! It dazzled with last year’s performance from Joe Diffie, the Avey Grouws Band and local musician Abby Towne.

In 2019, it will bring country music stars Tyler Farr and Mark Chesnutt to the stage. A third band will be confirmed at a later date.

How does a small town with a small Norwegian heritage celebration get two big country stars to play here?

“We provide a quality environment for them to play,” Patrick Longmire, Jr., said. Longmire is the event coordinator for Musikk Fest, along with an army of volunteers.

“It’s quality entertainment that people will want to go to,” he added. “A ton of work goes into it, from the volunteers to getting things lined up.”

The choice to bring Farr and Chesnutt to the stage comes from Longmire and the committee asking a lot of people about who they’d like to see. After that, it’s up to Longmire to contact the artists’ agency and see who’s available for May 18, 2019, and of course, the price range.

“We throw names out there to see what sticks,” Longmire said. “You make your best educated guess on what will draw a crowd. This year we wanted to get a younger artist, and have a 90s guy open it up to the staple crowd.”

That will hopefully draw a wider variety and demographic of viewers. Last year, concert goers ages 18 and under to 60s and over enjoyed three artists.

General admission tickets go on sale Dec. 1 at the price of $20 until Dec. 31. In 2019, the ticket price goes up to $25. Buying tickets the day of the show will cost $35.

VIP packages are available starting in December at $75, with 100 available VIP packages.

Meet and greet tickets are available in December for $125. There are 15 of these for each artist.

As for the rest of the Syttende Mai celebration, the committee is looking to bring back many favorite events.

A new event will have friends “Running with my Gnomies” in a half-marathon race. More details will be available soon.

Tyler Farr

Country music star Tyler Farr debuted in 2013 with the album “Redneck Crazy.” It was No. 2 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart and No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200.

That put Farr as “the only solo male country artist in the last 10 years whose first two studio albums debuted on Billboard Top 200 Albums Top 5,” according to a press release.

He is the first-ever country artist to appear on MTV’s comedy show “Ridiculousness,” which aired spring 2016.

Farr has three No. 1 songs, including “A Guy Walks into a Bar” (Gold), “Redneck Crazy” (Platinum) and “Whiskey In My Water” (first No. 1 as a songwriter).

Mark Chesnutt

Mark Chesnutt is a country music singer-songwriter originating from Beaumont, Texas.

He was most famous between 1990 and 2002. During that time he had eight albums, and charted 20 Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Eight of those reached No. 1.

Popular songs include “Too Cold At Home,” “Almost Goodbye,” “I’ll Think of Something” and “Brother Jukebox.”
