Allen Fossey

Allen M. Fossey, 91, of Preston, died on Jan. 30, 2019, at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

He was born on June 1, 1927 in Mitchell County, Iowa, the oldest of four children born to Mense and Amy (Rustad) Fossey.

He graduated from Lyle High School in 1944.

He was united in marriage to Marian Hardecopf in 1950, at Marshall Lutheran Church in rural Adams. Together they had four children, Bruce, Wanda, Jean and Bonnie.

He farmed in the Lyle and Mona, Iowa area. In 1969 he purchased a farm near Preston where he raised beef cattle, hogs and crops. He enjoyed attending auctions, going to the sales barn, listening to polka music and dancing. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also worked at Preston Dairy and Farm for many years driving the water truck until he was in his early 80’s. He made a point of attending all of his grandchildren’s high school, college, masters and doctoral graduations.

Following the passing of his wife, he was united in marriage to Marge Larson in 2003.

He is survived by his four children, Bruce Fossey of Preston, Wanda Hofstad of Rochester, Jean Fossey of Rushford and Bonnie (Tom Brownell) Fossey of Hibbing, Minn.; three grandchildren, Ryan Brownell, Dr. Brittany Brownell and Thea Hofstad and one sister, Norma (Emory) Price of Lyle.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Marian in 1991 and Marge in 2018; a brother, Leo and a sister, Margaret.

A memorial service for him was held on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with the Rev. Dan Bredberg officiating. Burial of the urn will take place in the spring.
