Hannah Iacarella is Chatfield High School's new Spanish instructor and she speaks of Spanish empowerment.

"I started Spanish in high school and excelled, and I just really enjoyed learning the language, and thus it made me decide that was what I wanted to teach when I grew up," she explained. "I have wanted to be a teacher since I was little. There is just something so empowering about watching someone say or do something you just taught them."

Iacarella graduated from high school in 2005 and from Winona State University in 2009. She chose to come to Chatfield because she was hoping to start her first year as a teacher in a district with a positive atmosphere.

"Everybody is so nice and helpful, I look forward to getting to know everyone better," she added. "I look forward to sharing my love and passion of the Spanish language with my students."

Iacarella is looking forward to getting to know her students and feels the most important thing they should learn while in school is not only the subject material, but also a respect for teachers and other classmates.

"Being a younger teacher, I am sure there will be students trying to be buddy-buddy with me, but I will make sure to be firm and fair in my discipline with all students," she added. "I hope to encourage students to want to continue their education after high school."

Iacarella lives in Winona with her boyfriend of three years, and she enjoys spending her spare time exercising, reading, shopping, sleeping and spending time with family and friends.
