“The first trip I went on was an ‘explorer trip’ – I spent a week there and learned about the different ministries, about the food distribution, dedicated a clean water well and went on a baby rescue,” recalled Laurie Byrne of Chatfield. “I had read about the baby rescues . . . my heart broke for those children, but actually seeing the children and seeing the fear in their mothers’ eyes made it real . . . these were no longer just stories.”
